The Holetown Festival was started in 1977 by Mr. Alfred Pragnell, Mr. Keith Simmons and Trents Northern Youth Group to celebrate the 350th Anniversary of the first English settlement of Barbados.  The Festival which is performed on the site of the first Settlement has grown over the years and has developed into the unique Holetown brand.  Its origin makes it a unique Festival, a Bajan Cultural Extravaganza.  Entertainment includes a variety of music, such as Gospel, Classical, Tuk Band and Calypso, as well as Folk Dancing, presented in free open-air concerts.

The Holetown Festival has been designated by the Barbados Government as one of the Seven Magnificent Festivals of Barbados.

Some of the features of the festival are:

  • the opening gala and steel band concert
  • nightly variety concerts at the seaside theatre
  • street fair and parade
  • Holetown Dooflicky and Bajan carnival
  • grand floodlit tattoo and night march
  • Holetown bus tours

  • nightly after concert limes and karaoke competition

 

If you really want to feel the culture, then sample the street fair and parades. In fact, the Holetown Festival Street Fair is a unique blend of dance, drama, arts and crafts, music and authentic Barbadian food. This cultural extravaganza is coveted by locals and tourists alike. Take a stroll through the craft village and choose from the variety of local arts and crafts on display. Feeling hungry? Feel free to stop in at any of the food stalls and enjoy some of the mouth-watering local cuisine.

The event is for all ages, so you can bring the entire family for a day of fun and enjoyment. Especially not to be missed are the parades. The first parade of the day, “The Street Parade” starts and 10:00am and features: The Vintage Cars, Military Groups, Local Dance Groups and those wishing to be awarded  the  of Miss Holetown Queen of the Festival. The second parade, “The Holetown Dooflicky” is an interactive parade where locals and tourists alike are invited to join and participate in the activities. This parade starts at 4:00pm and features: The Stilt Walkers, Mother Sally, The Green Monkeys, The Tuk Band and The Limbo Queen to name a few.
